Ninety percent of participants in an Australian test of Near Field Communication reported they were "very or extremely satisfied" with the contactless-payment technology, according to Australian mobile Operator Telstra Corp., National Australian Bank and Visa Inc., all of which took part in the project. Survey results released Wednesday for the three-month project, which kicked off in August and involved about 200 consumers and 12 merchants in Melbourne, indicate that 95% of participants were "likely or very likely" to use the technology in the future. Additionally, 78% of participants said they preferred paying with a mobile phone instead of cash. Test participants downloaded information for Visa-branded credit card issued by National Australian Bank onto the SIM cards on their Telstra phones.
