PayPal Names Two New Executives

Online and mobile payment giant PayPal announced two major additions to its leadership today.

Jonathan Auerbach, formerly the chief executive of Group Digital Life, a communications subsidiary of Singapore telecommunications giant Singtel, has taken the position of senior vice president of strategy and growth, effective April 27. Auerbach will be responsible for PayPal's partnerships, investments, and acquisitions, according to PayPal's April 21 press release.

Also effective April 27, Louise Pentland will be PayPal's general counsel. Pentland previously served as chief legal officer and executive vice president at Finland's Nokia Corporation, which PayPal said gives her a "deep legal and commercial knowledge along with a strategic understanding of the mobile technology landscape." Pentland will be responsible for PayPal's legal compliance with global financial and regulatory regimes.

PayPal is in the process of spinning off from eBay, which purchased the alternative payment provider in 2002. Following the spinoff, former American Express executive Dan Schulman will head PayPal as its CEO. PayPal hired Schulman as president late last year, following the departure of former PayPal president David Marcus, who now works at Facebook.
