Reported compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard inched up again from April through August among the largest merchants accepting Visa cards, Visa Inc. announced today. Acquirers for Level 1 merchants (merchants that accept 6 million or more Visa card transactions per year) reported that 81% of their merchant customers validated PCI compliance. That is four basis points higher than the 77% who were compliant as of March 31. Acquirers reported that 85% of Level 2 merchants (those accepting 1 million and 6 million Visa transactions per year) were PCI compliant, up seven basis points. Visa has not yet released updated compliance statistics for Level 3 merchants that accept 20,000 and 1 million e-commerce transactions per year. Visa previously reported 56% of Level 3 merchants were PCI compliant as of March 31.
