Planet Payment, BESOR to Support UnionPay Acceptance in Macau

Planet Payment has partnered with Banco Espirito Santo do Oriente S.A. in Macau to provide UnionPay card acceptance to local merchants.

UnionPay currently has more than 3.5 billion cards worldwide, and travel from mainland China to Macau rose 10% in 2013, the companies say in an Aug. 13 press release. BESOR specializes in supporting foreign companies interested in doing business in Portuguese speaking countries in Macau and the Pearl River Delta region.

Planet Payment, which is based in in Long Beach, N.Y., specializes in supporting payments in multiple currencies for merchants serving international travelers.

UnionPay acceptance "is an important tool for merchants looking to sell more goods and services to the increasingly significant number of [UnionPay] cardholders," Carl Williams, chief executive of Planet Payment, said in the release.
