The bank’s eazypay platform is Qatar’s first mobile-to-mobile funds-transfer service, which was launched in September (see story). It enables consumers to us their mobile phones to transfer up to 2,000 rial (US$550 or 415 euros) per day to any other Qatar National-registered accountholders via their mobile-phone numbers.

With the upgrade, participating merchants now may accept payments made via eazypay from customers registered to use the service. Previously, customers could only make fund transfers to other eazypay-registered customers. The service is free.

Customers make transactions using text messages sent to a designated number with the instruction “Pay” followed by the merchant’s mobile-phone number and the amount to be transferred.

No account details are entered when using the service, and the funds are transferred almost instantly. The bank also sends confirmation text messages to both the customer and the merchant.

Qatar National says it operates a network of 44 traditional branches, 12 Islamic branches and more than 160 ATMs in Qatar.
