Samsung Pay to Add In-App Payments, Links to Citi in Singapore

Samsung announced a partnership with Citibank Singapore Limited enabling support for Samsung Pay on newer Samsung handsets in the Singapore region. Samsung Pay will launch there this summer following a pilot, the technology maker said in a May 30 press release.

Samsung also plans to launch a separate, new mobile payments app in June that will extend in-app payments for the first time to Samsung Pay, according to reports. Since its launch last year, Samsung Pay has been available only on the phone maker’s Galaxy line of handsets for in-store contactless payments using its Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology or standard Near Field Communication.

Dubbed Samsung Pay Mini, the new app will enable consumers to make in-app payments via Samsung Pay in Android and iOS devices, according to a recent report in Korea's ETNews. Available initially only to users in South Korea, the app enables consumers to enter any of their credit and debit cards into the Samsung app, and must authenticate each payment with a fingerprint or a six-digit password, the report said.
