Network for Electronic Transfers Ltd., an electronic payments firm based in Singapore and also known as NETS, plans to conduct a six-month test of Near Field Communication technology. The test will involve 250 credit cardholders, a spokesperson for the firm tells CardLine Global without detailing the schedule for the test. NFC is a short-range wireless technology that enables consumers to use mobile phones to make contactless payments and download information. The test also will involve Singapore-based mobile-network operator SingTel and United Overseas Bank, also based in Singapore. Consumers will use Nokia 6131 phones. Test participants can make contactless payments at more than 500 merchants on the NETS network.
