Twenty-eight percent of consumers interested in receiving marketing messages from merchant brands on their mobile phones and other devices anticipate also checking their account balances using mobile devices in the next year, according to a study released by Aite Group LLC. Additionally, 28% of those interested in mobile marketing believe they will pay bills using mobile devices, and 23% anticipate using their mobile devices to transfer funds to other cardholders' accounts in the next year, according to the study. Up to 14% of surveyed respondents expressed interest in receiving mobile-marketing messages, such as offers or coupons from retailers. Mobile banking "is one of the mobile-phone functions that they are interested in," says Judy Fishman, an Aite analyst and co-author of the report. Aite conducted the online survey of 496 debit or credit cardholders in January.
