Czech bank Komercni Banka has tapped Spire Payments to roll out more than 6,000 point-of-sale devices for the bank in its home country.
Spire is executing the roll-out in collaboration with SoNet, a payment service integrator in the Czech and Slovak regions. The deal represents the first mass deployment of open Linux-based, EMV and contactless-capable terminals in the region.
“These are truly exciting times for SoNet, and the introduction of the Spire Payments POS range to our solution portfolio provides a perfect platform to offer our customer base the latest payment technologies,” SoNet chief executive Jan Pistelak noted in a Nov. 13 news release. “The flexibility and ease by which the KB application was developed is testament to the capabilities and ease-of-use of the Linux-based software development kit (inSpire).”
Komercni Banka chose Spire and SoNet’s offering because it featured a complete range of products including mobile point of sale, in-country personal key injection capabilities and payWave and PayPass certification for all devices, among many reasons. Additionally, the bank appreciated that the service would be provided by a local company in SoNet.
