Square CEO Jack Dorsey told CNN today that his company wants to help businesses accept all payment forms, including Apple Pay. The Square Register app currently does not accept Apple Pay, but the capability could come in 2015, Dorsey said.

Apple Pay operates through both Near Field Communication and in-app payments. Dorsey did not specify which type of payment Square would support; Square's readers do not have NFC built in, but they rely on a data connection from smartphones and tablets that sometimes use NFC for other purposes.

The past two weeks have been busy for Square as the company announced its plans to begin selling mobile card readers that accept EMV chip-based transactions, as well as an arrangement to process payments for Snapchat's person-to-person Snapcash system.

In addition, Square announced this week that it was adding global support of the Square Register app, which provides various e-commerce management tools along with card-payment acceptance.
