ChargeSmart LLC, a start-up that enables people to use credit cards to make online payments to billers that do not accept cards, says auto loans are the most popular use of its service.
The San Francisco company launched its service in June and charges users $4.95 per transaction plus 2.29% of the amount. Though the service can be used to keep current on mortgages and other loans in a month when a consumer is low on cash, ChargeSmart said Monday that many of its customers are using the service to set up automated payments for their car loans, sometimes for up to a year.
