State Bank Of India To Switch ATM Platforms

Opus Software Solutions Pvt. Ltd. has won a US$10 million (7,406 euros) order from the State Bank of India to replace the bank’s ATM-processing platform to a dual server-based system, an official from the bank tells PaymentsSource.

“The platform would have servers in two locations, Mumbai and Chennai, which will share the load,” he says. “Both would run simultaneously, and if one server goes down then the second one takes over.”

Opus will replace the existing platform on the bank’s 22,000 deployed ATMs first, the official says. “This is part of our drive to have 25,000 ATMs by March 31,” he adds.

The bank’s goal is to operate 50,000 machines by 2014 as it deploys more ATMs as part of an expansion strategy. “Many of these would be in remote terrain in rural India, and that is why having backups is necessary for us,” the official says. “Because these are prone to connection failures due to terrain and weather, we would need a backup server if one fails.”

The upgrade should be completed by the end of this year, according to the official. The bank’s ATM vendors include NCR Corp., Diebold Inc. and Wincor Nixdorf.

Opus Software is based in India.
