A Texas woman who posed as an employee for a debt settlement company has pleaded guilty to five counts of wire fraud for allegedly swindling $13,000 from a Mississippi couple.
Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hoods, in a news release, stated that Monica Clune, 44, of Farmer's Branch, Texas, entered the plea this week in Lafayette County Circuit Court in Oxford, Miss. She was sentenced to five years on each count, to run consecutively. However, 20 years of the sentence was suspended, leaving five years to serve.
Hood says Clune and her husband, John, worked under the business name "A Different Debt Company," claiming to act as an advocate for people dealing with creditors.
John Clune earlier pleaded guilty to the same charges and is now on probation.
