Toy Company Releases Internet-Connected Piggy Bank

Thanks to Spiral Toys, now even your children's piggy bank has gone mobile.

The company has unveiled Wiggy, a toy piggy bank that comes with an interactive mobile app and a linked bank account. The app allows funds to be deposited into the account.

The piggy bank itself features Bluetooth Low Energy technology that connects the toy to the mobile app. Through the app, consumers can make the physical piggy bank light up in different colors, oink and shake.

"Wiggy will be the first product to link a piggy bank with a child's banking account, making saving fun, engaging and rewarding for the whole family," said Spiral Toys chief executive Mark Meyers in a Jan. 12 news release. "Wiggy will build on the success of our CloudPets line by offering a mobile-connected experience that teaches children important life lessons around earning and saving money."

The product will be launched in the second quarter of 2016. Meyers added that the company is in talks with financial and banking institutions regarding the mobile financial technology that will be utilized in the Wiggy piggy bank.
