Trustly, optile partner on European bank account-funded e-commerce

Trustly, a Stockholm-based startup whose technology enables cross-border and online payments, has partnered with optile, a German online payments company, to expand the number of European merchants it supports for direct online bank payments.

The move comes as European banks begin to implement new digital authentication methods increasing security for merchants to accept payments directly from customers’ accounts, a highly popular method in markets where fewer consumers use payment cards, Trustly noted in a Thursday press release.

The partnership makes it possible for Trustly’s services to reach a wider audience via Munich-based optile’s global payment platform, according to the release. Optile serves mostly digital and technical customers in retail, travel, dating, gaming and other industries.

“Optile enables online merchants to offer just the right localized payment mix to consumers of whichever market they choose to enter, and this approach is fully supportive of Trustly’s vision of future payments,” said Adam Bowman, Trustly’s director of partner sales, in the release.

“We believe that the alliance of Trustly’s strength in direct online banking and optile’s innovative approach to payments will make it possible for online businesses to improve their geographical reach and expand their business potential,” added Manual Sandhofer, an optile partners and vice president of sales.
