Total System Services Inc., the United States-based transaction processor known as TSYS, has increased its footprint in Japan and Brazil. Thursday, the U.S. firm said it had signed a deal to process the "Tressa Style Card Plus" that Toyota Finance Inc. will issue to consumers at Tressa Yokohama, a shopping mall in Yokohama, Japan. The card functions as a prepaid card and as a QuicPay contactless card. QuicPay is a contactless credit scheme from Japan's JCB Co. Ltd. The deal extends a previous Visa card-processing agreement TSYS signed with Toyota Finance in 2006, a TSYS spokesperson tells CardLine Global. TSYS this week also said it has opened an office in Campinas, Brazil, to support the processor's first client in that country, Banco Carrefour S.A. The "multi-year agreement" with the hypermarket chain includes processing for its "hybrid" and private-label cards, and a MasterCard-branded "hybrid" card set to launch in July, the spokesperson says. "In this context, the hybrid card works like a private-label card when a consumer uses it at any Carrefour store," the spokesperson explains. "However, it works like a regular credit card when a consumer uses it at any store other than Carrefour."
