A Turkish bank will issue a MasterCard-branded chip card that enables consumers to not only make retail purchases but to pay road and bridge tolls also, a MasterCard Worldwide spokesperson tells CardLine Global. The "Asyacard DIT" from Bank Asya is a dual-interface card that enables consumers to make both contact and contactless transactions, the spokesperson says. The card carries MasterCard's contactless PayPass application as well as the global EMV application, designed to make smart card transactions more secure, the spokesperson says. Consumers can use the card for chip-and-PIN purchases. They also can use the card to pay tolls on two bridges over the Bosporus Strait. "The toll roads have a booth system with different gates for the different payment methods," the spokesperson says. "Queues at the gates using the Mifare system included on the [card] move quickest due to the contactless nature of the interaction."
