Akbank has renewed its contract with First Data Corp., an official with the United States-based processor tells CardLine Global. Turkey-based Akbank has used First Data's services since 2001, including for loyalty cards, but the U.S. processor did not specify the length of the renewal. First Data's technology supports some 5 million credit cards issued by Akbank, Soner Canko, managing director for the processor's operations in Turkey, tells CardLine Global. "The new agreement [involves] up to 10 million credit cards," Canko says. The bank issues MasterCard- and Visa-branded cards.
