A Ukrainian man wanted in the United States for his alleged role in a fraud ring that stole payment card data from TJX Cos. and other retail chains has been sentenced in Turkey to 30 years in prison for allegedly hacking into Turkish bank accounts. Before his sentencing Thursday, 27-year-old Maksym Yastremskiy told the Turkish judge he was innocent, according to published reports. Yastremskiy reportedly said a laptop Turkish police found in his hotel room when they arrested him in July 2007 belonged to a friend, not him. The laptop allegedly contained incriminating Turkish bank information. U.S. officials will continue to seek Yastremskiy's extradition to face charges here (CardLine, 8/6/08), a U.S. Department of Justice spokesperson tells CardLine. She would not comment further on the case.
