Aconite, a United Kingdom-based provider of smart card services, and Datacard Corp. jointly announced Wednesday that Aconite has acquired Datacard's Affina Enterprise Platform software product. Datacard, a Minneapolis-based provider of identification and card-personalization products, has transferred the intellectual property rights, support and development staff for the Affina Enterprise Platform software to Aconite, according to the companies. In return, Datacard obtained an equity stake in Aconite and will receive future software royalties. The Affina Enterprise Platform software enables issuers to manage their smart chip-enabled card portfolios. "The deal represents a significant development in Aconite's strategy to expand its product portfolio and international reach," said Mike Woods, Aconite CEO, in a statement. Datacard could not be reached for comment by CardLine's deadline.
