UK Q3 Card Use Grew 7% To 2 Billion Transactions

Consumers in the United Kingdom made 2.01 billion debit and credit card purchases during the third quarter ended 30 Sept., up 6.9% from 1.88 billion during the same period last year, according to the UK Cards Association, a trade group. Purchases using payment cards totaled 97.5 billion pounds (US$162.3 billion or 107.4 billion euros) during the third quarter, up 4.4% from 93.4 billion pounds, the group says. Debit cards accounted for 75% of plastic card purchases during the quarter, up from 73.8% a year ago.
