U.S. Bancorp said it has started offering contactless debit cards to customers in California, Colorado, Missouri, and Utah.
The Minneapolis company also said Monday that it is working with USA Technologies Inc. of Malvern, Pa., to install 400 contactless card readers on vending machines in the Denver area.
U.S. Bancorp has designated Denver as one of its "PowerBank" markets, where it is increasing its head count and advertising efforts.
Some California and Missouri customers have already received the contactless cards, which use Visa Inc.'s payWave format. Cardholders in Denver and Salt Lake City can request one at U.S. Bank branches.
"Visa payWave debit cards will allow our customers to make everyday purchases faster and easier than having to fumble for cash," Lynn Heitman, a senior vice president with U.S. Bank's retail payment solutions unit, said in a press release.
