Vancity Visa, the credit and prepaid card-issuing division of Vancouver City Savings Credit Union, is piloting new envelopes to reduce paper in its mailings to cardholders. The envelopes, called ecoEnvelopes, eliminate the need for business reply envelopes, according to the Vancouver-based issuer. A cardholder who receives one of the test mailings opens it by tearing a tab along the back of the envelope. The cardholder turns around the business-reply insert so the issuer's reply address and postal permit appear in the envelope window. The cardholder then seals the envelop with a wider flap. EcoEnvelopes consist of a new type of biodegradable polystyrene, according to Vancity. EcoEnvelopes LLC is based in Minneapolis.
