VeriFone Holdings Inc.’s upcoming VX point-of-sale terminals will be upgradeable to future Payment Card Industry security standards, the terminal maker says.
The San Jose, Calif.-based company announced the VX “Evolution” updates last week at the Electronic Transactions Association Annual Meeting and Expo in Las Vegas.
The four products–countertop POS terminal VX520, wireless terminal VX680, the VX820 PIN pad with display and VX820 customer-facing device–have more memory and faster processors to enable quicker software processing, Scott Henry, VeriFone product marketing director for North America, told ISO&Agent Weekly at the conference.
Certification by payment processors, an essential step to ensuring the devices operate properly on processor networks, is the next step, he says.
The VX520 and VX 680 should be available in May, and the VX820 models are slated for sale later this year, VeriFone says.
The new devices meet current security standards.
Because they share VeriFone’s Verix operating system, the terminals can be updated as the standards evolve, Henry says. More than 8 million devices operate using Verix, VeriFone says.
