The 44-page "List of Registered Independent Sales Organizations" Visa Inc. recently published may be the nation's first directory of third-party companies that deploy point-of-sale terminals and off-premise ATMs. Registered ISOs are businesses that Visa and MasterCard Worldwide have approved to process their credit, debit and prepaid card transactions. The list will inform ISOs of whether an unregistered competitor is operating in its service area, Raymond A. Varcho, a board member of the National Association of ATM ISOs & Operators, tells ATM&Debit News, a CardLine sister publication. The list includes ATM ISOs, Merchant Service ISOs (for credit cards) and Prepaid Card ISOs alphabetically by state and includes their Web site addresses. Varcho says his company learned last November that Visa was compiling the list when representatives of the National Association of ATM ISOs & Operators approached the payment association to discuss compilation of such a list.
