Visa Europe said Tuesday it has started to test a service that would enable consumers to receive text messages on their mobile phones after making purchases made with debit, credit and prepaid cards. Visa employees in the United Kingdom are testing the service, the card organization says in a statement. The transaction alerts also can come via e-mail, the statement says. The alerts enable cardholders to quickly spot suspicious and fraudulent transactions, Visa says. Ideally, the scheme would send alerts to cardholders before their cards are handed back to them at the point of sale. Visa did not indicate how long the test would last or how many employees are participating. Visa did not respond to a request for comment.
