EMERYVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 29, 2008--TriniTEQ, Inc. a leading developer of handheld hospitality point of sale systems, announced today that its WaiterPAD system has successfully completed Payment Application Best Practices (PABP) compliance testing performed by information security assessment and data protection company, Digital Resources Group (DRG). As a Validated Payment Application, WaiterPAD now allows restaurant patrons to securely pay at the table.
Paying at the table allows servers to swipe credit cards tableside, in the presence of the consumer, preventing the credit card from leaving the table. In addition to enabling secure tableside payment, WaiterPAD is a complete handheld ordering system designed for hospitality. First deployed in 1999, WaiterPAD is used by thousands of major restaurants, bars, cafes, theaters and sporting venues around the world.
As a Visa-designated Qualified Payment Application Security Company, DRG conducted extensive security testing to validate WaiterPAD?s PABP compliance. Jim Cowing, CISSP, QPASP and Managing Director of Digital Resources Group, noted that, ?DRG?s testing covered all aspects of the application that stores, processes or transmits payment information including the handheld and wireless system. Successful completion of PABP is a noteworthy accomplishment for TriniTEQ. PABP validation demonstrates the WaiterPAD application has met all requirements that the Payment Card Industry has established to ensure merchants are using a secure application that protects their customer?s cardholder data."
As a low frequency, long-range Radio Frequency (RF) system, WaiterPAD has advantages over Wi-Fi systems for pay at the table. In restaurants with commonly found enclosed rooms, microwaves, glass, steel and liquids, WaiterPAD requires fewer wireless access points and reduces security risk by avoiding more commonly trafficked Wi-Fi frequencies.
"Hospitality security requirements continue to rise in response to sophisticated and often well publicized security breaches," commented James Vote, CTO, TriniTEQ. "PABP compliance validation is an important milestone given WaiterPAD?s design as high-profile hospitality enterprises? handheld of choice for reliable ordering, up-selling and now secure payment at the table."
