Western Union has expanded it collaboration with MTN Group to provide mobile money transfers in the Ivory Coast.
Consumers can subscribe to MTN Mobile Money to receive a Western Union money transfer on their phone and receive funds at the country's nearly 900 Western Union branches. International transactions can be initiated online or at the branches. Consumers can also use the service to make utility payments and other purchases.
The new service builds the companies' earlier partnership in Uganda and expands Western Union's footprint in Africa, said Khalid Fellahi, senior vice president and general manager of Western Union Digital, in an Aug. 11 press release.
The MTN Group operates in 22 countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, serving 210.1 million subscribers. Its MTN Mobile Money service has more than 16 million customers in 15 countries, of which more than 7.5 million are in Ivory Coast.
