Germany-based ATM vendor Wincor Nixdorf AG has signed a deal to provide payment terminals at some 1,300 petrol stations in Germany operated by Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH. The "staff-assisted, self-service" terminal systems will enable consumers to pay for purchases and some to withdraw cash though a cooperative deal with Germany's Postbank, Wincor says. Enabling such withdrawals in Germany requires the participation of a bank, a Wincor Nixdorf spokesperson tells CardLine Global. The "advantage for Postbank is that [it is] able to deliver cash to its nearly 5 million customers spread across Germany at [an] additional 1,300 cash points," the spokesperson says. Wincor also will provide software and other services for the terminal systems. The systems store banknotes in a safe and automatically provide change for purchases. Customers can use their debit cards and PINs to receive cash from systems capable of recycling banknotes. Installations under the deal will start around June 2009, the spokesperson says. Wincor Nixdorf already has installed the devices, often called "automated teller safes," in 7-Eleven convenience stores in Sweden, the spokesperson says. Another retailer installation has taken place in Switzerland, the spokesperson adds.
