Xoom Adds Money Transfer Apps for Android, iPhone

Xoom has developed native Apple and Android applications for its money transfer service.

With these apps, existing customers can submit a transfer order in a few seconds.  The apps also provide real-time status updates of transfers, fee reviews and updated exchange rates.

"The market has traditionally been served by offline, inconvenient cash-to-cash operators, where consumers often waste precious time standing in line," says Joe Raymond, Xoom's vice president of product development, in a release.

Xoom recently launched a service called Pay Only When Received, in which Xoom does not withdraw money from the sender's account until the recipient receives a transfer. The program first went live in the Philippines and has since been deployed in other markets.  Another recent Xoom product, Status Trak, allows people to track transfers using text messages, email and phone.

Xoom also entered a promotional partnership with Amazon.com during the spring.
