Private banking chief leaves BankAmerica.

SAN FRANCISCO - Peter S. Voss has resigned as head of BankAmerica Corp.'s investment and private banking division to become chief executive of New England Investment Cos., a Boston-based asset management firm.

Mr. Voss, 45, was put in charge of the new BankAmerica division earlier this year following the acquisition of Security Pacific Corp.

He had been an executive vice president at Security Pacific, overseeing international banking, trading, and securities, and was chief executive of the company's investment subsidiary.

Stint with Hoare Govett

From 1988 to 1991, he was chief executive of the company's London-based Hoare Govett Ltd. brokerage subsidiary.

The departure of Mr. Voss, who could not be reached for comment, comes at a time when BankAmerica is trying to consolidate a large number of its investment management and private banking operations with those of Security Pacific.

A BankAmerica spokeswoman said she did not know when a replacement would be named.

The investment group is already laboring without chiefs at two of its six business units.

Job Openings

BankAmerica is looking for executives to manage its U.S. private banking and institutional investment management businesses, the spokeswoman said.

The division also includes international private banking, personal trust, mutual funds, and investment real estate units. It has about $45 billion in assets under management.

The businesses are a mix of BankAmerica and Security Pacific products and services. For example, the mutual fund unit has 15 funds, including Security Pacific's Horizon funds and BankAmerica's First Funds of America.
