US order downplays rival's ATM patent.

Officials at US Order Inc., a technology company in the electronic home shopping business, said a patent recently issued to a competitor will not impede it or the home banking industry.

The patent, won by Online Resources and Communications Corp., of McLean, Va., on June 15, involves using automated teller machine networks and security controls to let consumers bank from home.

Fraser Bullock, president of Herndon, Va.-based US Order, said his company has a patent for its service that predates Online's patent. He also said there are ways to use ATM networks and security controls in home banking that aren't covered by the Online patent.
