A poll by Fleet New York, a subsidiary of Fleet Financial Group, Providence, R.I., found that a significant jump in homebuying may be on the horizon.
The poll, conducted in New York State, found that while almost half of those surveyed did not own a home, two-thirds said they would like to buy one soon.
"Significantly," the poll said, "many of those who plan to purchase a home have high enough incomes to make their dreams a reality."
"As a result, as much as 32% of the current adult population of the state could be added to the ranks of prospective new homebuyers in the next five years," the poll found.
