National Commerce opens N.C. store branches.

National Commerce Bancorp. has expanded into North Carolina with the opening of five supermarket branches in Kroger grocery stores in the Raleigh-Durham area.

The Memphis-based holding company plans to open two more supermarket branches in the area in the coming months.

They will offer the full army of services and products, including equity credit lines, mortgages, car loans, checking and savings accounts, and investment products.

National Commerce is considered a leader in the supermarket banking arena; the opening of the Raleigh-Durham branches brings the number of its supermarket outlets to 57 - the largest such network in the country.

In addition, the $2.8 billion-asset company has provided supermarket banking consulting to more than 120 financial institutions across the country.
