Microbank, FileNet to market imaging interface.

Microbank Software Inc. and FileNet Corp. have signed an agreement under which both will sell an interface linking FileNet's local area network-based imaging system, WorkFlo, with Microbank's data access and analysis software Stor/QM.

Both are Windows-based products.

Words and Pictures

The new interface allows document images and computer-generated reports to reside on the same optical jukebox.

It then integrates them using Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE), a Microsoft protocol that runs Windows.

DDE is the technology that enables users to access more than one application at a time.

Client-Server Specialist

Based in Costa Mesa, Calif., FileNet specializes in providing client-server document imaging systems. FileNet's WorkFlo controls the movement of data, images, and text throughout an enterprise.

Stor/QM had traditionally served as a replacement for other archive storage media such as microfilm, microfiche, and printed reports.

The system enables users to access FileNet WorkFlo and Stor/QM simultaneously on their screens, according to David L. Aach, vice president of New York City-based Microbank.

Combining Images

The user can then combine document images such as invoices with computer-generated reports such as accounts-payable records.

A mortgage application could be combined with a monthly statement, or a deal ticket could be combined with a trading report, for example.

The system uses Computer Output to Laser Disk (COLD) storage with on-line access to computer-generated data contained in reports.

STOR/QM allows users to manipulate report data, create ad hoc or repetitive queries, and reach indexed or unindexed report fields.

In addition, users working with any Windows application that has DDE capability can incorporate data from Stor/QM into the application using a SQL-like query.

For example, users could search a 200-page report for a specific dollar amount and come up with the information within seconds.
