Capital Briefs: Candidates Sought for Community Awards

Know of a bank that deserves to be recognized for its community lending efforts? The Social Compact wants to hear about it.

Nominations for 1997 are being accepted for the group's Outstanding Community Investment Awards, presented every other year to banks and their community-group partners.

The Social Compact, made up of more than 400 top officials at financial institutions and neighborhood housing groups, promotes low- and moderate- income lending.

Winning partnerships receive grants of $10,000 to further assist their communities. The deadline for nominations is Aug. 31. The awards will be presented in Washington next May.
