In Brief: Corus Has Stunning 36% Effiency Ratio

Corus Bankshares - formerly River Forest Bancorp - reported that its efficiency ratio for the first six months of 1996 was at a low 36.15%.

The company's efficiency ratio, which measures the cost to produce $1 of revenue, typically has outshone most banks', which are usually in the 50% and 60% range. In first half 1995 Corus' ratio was 45.38%; in 1994 it was 52.17%.

Corus' management said it will cut other costs as it completes the merger of its separate banks. Corus merged four of them in June and expects to have just one charter by September.
