Amex Contest Offers Players a Net Return of $1M

American Express Co., a sponsor of the U.S. Open, is running a sweepstakes that will pit a man and a woman against tennis stars John McEnroe and Billie Jean King for a shot at $1 million each.

For the top prize, the contestant must return a serve from the stars into a target area in the opposite court. There's a $10,000 consolation prize just for being selected.

The event will be held Sunday - Arthur Ashe Kids' Day - at the U.S. Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. American Express will donate $25,000 to the Arthur Ashe Kids' Day Charity.

Separately, the New York company said it will give away five million Membership Rewards points to mark the program's fifth anniversary.

Participants who use the American Express card at 43 rewards program partners from Sept. 1 to Dec. 31 are eligible. More than 200 winners will be chosen, including the grand prize winner, who will receive one million points.
