Acting Chief Is Named for Banking Technology Secretariat

John S. Rippey, legislative director of the Bankers Roundtable, has been named acting chief executive officer of the Banking Industry Technology Secretariat.

The secretariat, known as Bits, was organized by the Roundtable last month to assure that the industry keeps control of payment systems as new technologies come to the fore.

Mr. Rippey, who has been working almost full-time on the initiative, said he will run Bits until a permanent appointment is made late this year.

The board's first meeting is scheduled in November. The board will have 12 bank CEOs and chief operating officers - 10 from the Roundtable membership and one each from the American Bankers Association and Independent Bankers Association of America.
