Capital Briefs: ABA: Unfair to Ban Fees on Card Payment of Tax

The American Bankers Association on Tuesday urged House lawmakers to overturn a provision in the new tax law that forbids the government from paying fees to banks that process tax bills paid by credit card.

"It is axiomatic that anyone buying a service should pay a fair value for said service," the ABA said. "The implication that corporate taxpayers should provide financial services to the Internal Revenue Service, at no cost to the service, establishes a dangerous precedent."
