Roundup: H.W. McCall Jr., Ex-Chemical President, Dead

Howard Weaver McCall Jr., a former president of Chemical Bank, died Monday after a long illness, Chase Manhattan Bank said.

Mr. McCall, 89, had been with Chemical Bank for 45 years, serving as president from 1966 to 1972. He had remained as a director until 1973.

Born Aug. 11, 1907, in Chattanooga, Tenn., he graduated from the University of Virginia in 1928. That same year, he moved to New York and joined Chemical Bank as a teller. In 1955 he was named named executive vice president. In 1960 he became a first vice president and director, and in 1961 he was named vice chairman.

Chase said Mr. McCall will be remembered for his leadership after World War II in helping to supervise financing for the natural gas industry in the United States, including the pipelines which still carry natural gas to New York from Texas and Oklahoma.

Mr. McCall is survived by Jane Ewart, his wife of 58 years; three children; and four grandchildren.
