In Brief: Small-Business Study: ATM Cards Underused

Only one-fifth of small-business customers with ATM cards use them, according to a study of 900 businesses conducted by Payment Systems Inc., a market research and consulting firm.

The study comes as banks have aggressively promoted ATM use to reduce their costs of serving small-business customers. The study found an 86% increase in ATM access in the last two years.

"Customers are still relying on branch visits for the majority of routine banking transactions," said Maria Erickson, a PSI vice president.
