Capital Briefs: Delay Likely in Vote on Credit Union Bill

Despite heavy lobbying by credit unions, the Senate is expected to postpone until next week its vote on legislation that would ease membership limits on the nonprofit financial institutions.

Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott had tentatively scheduled consideration for today and Monday, but senators have gotten sidetracked by other legislation.

Lobbyists for the banking and credit union industries predicted that a vote will occur next Thursday or Friday, but cautioned that the volatile Senate schedule remains extremely hard to judge.
