Short Takes: Survey: Women Don't See Banks as Advisers

Ninety percent of women do not consider banks when looking for financial advice, and 84% view them only as a place for checking and short- term savings activities, a survey found.

Though 89% of the 100 women surveyed said financial planning is more important than five years ago, only 5% use banks as a resource, according to the study by Stern Marketing Group of Berkeley, Calif.

By contrast, the survey found that 47% go to financial planners; 28% use magazines, newspapers, or books; and 25% use the Internet.

The respondents were women in New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The majority were 25 to 49 years old and made $60,000 to $90,000.
