PayPal Adds Facebook Payments App

PayPal Inc. has developed an application for making person-to-person payments over Facebook Inc.'s social networking site.

PayPal, a unit of eBay Inc., said Thursday on its blog that roughly 80% of its active users are also active users of Facebook. PayPal, of San Jose, Calif., defines an active account as one that has sent, received or reversed a transaction within the prior 12 months and is currently able to transact.

"PayPal is going to where friends and family connect now," JB Coutinho, PayPal's senior product marketing manager, wrote in the blog post.

PayPal's app allows users to send a digital greeting card with the funds or to send funds alone.
