Texas Banks Adopt First Data's Mobile

Two Texas banks have introduced mobile banking services from First Data Corp.

The Atlanta payments company said Thursday that American Bank of Texas in Marble Falls and Waggoner National Bank in Vernon are using First Data's Mobile Manager mBanking system. It integrates with First Data's FundsXpress online banking system, allowing for a single set of log-in credentials for both, the vendor said.

First Data, a unit of the Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. private-equity firm, said that, since Jan. 1, 60 financial institutions have agreed to use the mBanking service, which runs on technology developed by mobile banking vendor mFoundry Inc.

The service works through text messages, a mobile Web browser or as a downloadable smartphone app. First Data supports apps for Apple Inc.'s iPhone and plans to make the service available through Google Inc.'s Android operating system in the first half of the year.
