More companies are borrowing a page from Apple's playbook and offering a way for store employees to handle customer payments on the floor.

In the latest example, Oracle has built its own in-store mobile point of sale system, leveraging VeriFone's Payware mobile enterprise hardware and software.

The tech giant used the VeriFone mobile card reader and mobile app software development kit to help create its newly released Retail Mobile Point-of-Service system, according to a release.

The Oracle product allows retailers to enable their employees to complete transactions from anywhere inside a brick and mortar store.

This version of Payware mobile comes equipped with a barcode scanner.

"Oracle's use of Payware Mobile Enterprise in its product development reflects VeriFone's commitment to provide partners and retailers with versatile payment solutions that are customizable and adaptable," says Jennifer Miles, VeriFone's executive vice president of North America, in a press release.
