Cardtronics Hires New CIO, Moves Current CIO to Security Role

Cardtronics announced the creation of a chief information security officer position that will be held by its current chief information officer, Jerry Garcia.

Mike McCarthy, most recently senior vice president and CIO at Fidelity National Information Services, will replace Garcia as Cardtronics' CIO.

The decision, the Houston automated teller machine operator says, affirms Cardtronics' commitment to securing its machines. Garcia spent the past decade developing the technology behind Cardtronics' information security software.

The company maintains 63,000 ATMs globally. Cardtronics last month boosted that number by purchasing Can-Do-Cash Ltd., a Canadian company with 800 machines.

"Cardtronics has a responsibility to its clients, consumers and our shareholders to be a model of excellence in information technology and security," said Cardtronics chief executive Steve Rathgaber, in a press release. "The creation of a dedicated information security officer role emphasizes Cardtronics' commitment to industry-leading security systems."
