Green Dot's aptly named mobile consumer checking account, GoBank, is leaving beta this summer and launching to a general audience over the upcoming Fourth of July.

The Pasadena, Calif. company launched the app to about 10,000 people in a limited release at the beginning of the year. "GoBank is now ready for prime time," says GreenDot's chief executive Steve Streit, who made the announcement Tuesday at this year's FinovateSpring in San Francisco.

Customers will be able to pick up the card at Rite Aid and Kmart stores starting this summer. In addition, people will also be able to order the card online.

A social media campaign and a reality TV pact with Project Runway will promote the card.

GoBank customers will be given access to two buckets of money: a Money Vault — a type of savings account where users can sock away cash in an effort to save — and a regular checking account.

In addition to having the use of Green Dot's ATM network and mobile check deposit option, customers will also be able to send cash to others via text message or even through Facebook.
