Larry E. Duckworth, chief executive of the $1.1 billion-asset OmniAmerican Bank in Fort Worth, died Thursday morning.
Mr. Duckworth, 59, led OmniAmerican through a hotly contested charter conversion to become a federal savings bank on Jan. 1, 2006. Mr. Duckworth became CEO and president of the organization in 1990, when it was a federal credit union. He grew the institution from $100 million to almost $1.5 billion of assets, and will be remembered "as a visionary leader with revolutionary ideas," a statement from OmniAmerican's board said.
Mr. Duckworth had a heart attack in August, heart surgery late last month, and was recovering at home when he died, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Friday.
Jane Adams, an executive vice president, was appointed acting chief executive officer of OmniAmerican.
